The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) is the head of the Manipur Health Department.  The directorate of health service is also responsible for Planning, Budgeting, Monitoring, Expenditure Organizing, Booking and implementing various national health programmes and health care activities. DHS is also committed fully in total health care of the citizen. The main responsibility of the government is to offer optimum health facilities to the people and particularly to those people living in tribal and rural areas of the State. National Health Mission Manipur

Founded in the year 2005, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Manipur was launched with the motive to recognize the importance of health of the people in the process of economic and social upliftment and to improve the quality of life of the citizen.

Health Schemes in Manipur

The Government of Manipur also has launched some health schemes for the benefit of the people of the state. Following are the health schemes in Manipur:

Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)

This scheme was introduced in Manipur on 2nd October 1975.  A per this scheme the government looks after the health, learning opportunities and nutrition for pre-school children and their mothers by simultaneously providing all the required services at the village level. The target groups of this scheme are the deprived and underprivileged children. ICDS care for small children below six years and also takes care of required needs of pregnant women and nursing.

Aims and objectives of ICDS Scheme:

  • Improving the health status and nutritional of children in the age group 0-6 years.
  • To lay proper foundation of physical, psychological and social development of the child.
  • Enhancing the capability of the mother to take care of the normal health and nutritional needs of the children.

Health Scheme for More other backward Class (MOBC)

The Government of Manipur implemented the scheme for the benefit of the Minorities and OBC community people. Under this programme the people belonging to this community are given financial assistance in the treatment of diseases by the government. According to this scheme a lump sum of Rs.4000 to Rs 2000 is given to per patient depending upon the severity of the diseases.

Janani Sishu Suraksha Karayakram (JSSK)

The Janani Suraksha Program was launched by the government of India on 1st June, 2011 for the benefit of the pregnant women and the new born babies.Mentioned below are the free Entitlements for pregnant women:
